Things to consider when booking a maternity session near Atlanta

For many moms, the idea of getting maternity portraits done is exciting and a moment that deserves to be documented. To others, it is a questionable, since your body has completely changed and you might not feel like yourself anymore.

While it might be your first or your third pregnancy, each will deliver you an experience that is completely unique. That deserves to be captured. If there is ever a time to entrust yourself to the hands of a professional photographer, it is for your maternity portraits. Professional maternity photographers understand that certain poses photograph better than others, and lighting is key. With a bit of guidance, you will look amazing and treasure these images for years to come.

When should I book?

The best time for your maternity session is around 28-34 weeks: your belly is full and round, but you are still comfortable to pose. For expecting mamas with multiple babies, come in earlier around 28 – 32 weeks since multiple babies tend to arrive earlier. I have had a maternity sessions close to delivery day with beautiful results, but I would rather have clients towards the earlier side, when mamas-to-be are feeling their best. However, it is completely up to you at what stage you would like your maternity photos taken.

Location Pros and Cons

When considering the location for your maternity shoot, keep in mind the advantages/disadvantages.

Studio

Advantage: convenience and control, no dependence on a weather and time of the day. Couture maternity dresses and other accessories are available in the studio.

Disadvantage: you really want to actually be in nature

Outdoor

Advantage: the pure beauty of a pregnant woman in an outdoor background is simply amazing! It is something about a mother bringing a new life into the world; and Mother Nature is a super powerful one.

Disadvantages: weather-dependent and shooting hours are limited to the golden hour of sunrise or sunset (to avoid harsh shadows). Reschedules can happen and may trigger the rescheduling of other related appointments (professional makeup and hair artist and etc). Be prepared to walk/hike to the location and change outfits outdoors.

All of these disadvantages is why I no longer offer outdoor maternity sessions.

If you are interested in booking a studio maternity session, contact me today so we can start planing your dream session. I only take a limited number of sessions each month so that every client gets the attention they deserve.
